Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection issues guidelines and follows up on complaints to assure a high level of vendor performance.

Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection

The following advise is from the Department of Consumer Protection, "At the On our website, www.ct.gov/dcp , you can verify if a contractor is registered.  If the contractor is not listed there that should be as far as you go with them since is a criminal violation not to be registered.  If they are registered then you can check out if there are complaints against them.  That should give you some indication as to how they operate their business.  After that the consumer should use their due diligence to ask for references, see how long they have been in business etc. to check them out.  You can also direct consumers to our home improvement section on our website to read the booklet on contractors to see what should be in a contract, what a good payment schedule should be like etc.  Consumers can also get information from out consumer hotline at 1-800-842-2649 or the home improvement line at 860-713-6110."
